Regional Transit Training

CAT is excited to be developing a travel training program to teach routes on GO Transit. It is jointly funded by Christian Horizons Central District (Toronto, York and Simcoe) (CH) and our parent agency The Salvation Army Lawson Ministries Hamilton (SALMH)—two non-profit agencies who provide support to adults with developmental disabilities. Both agencies hope to offer this training as part of their family of services once the program has been piloted.

With wonderful support and advice from our contacts at Metrolinx, we have produced three units of curriculum with a corresponding video series:

  1. Riding the GO Bus
  2. Riding the GO Train
  3. Planning a Trip on Go Transit

Watch for these videos, coming to our YouTube channel soon! Meanwhile, Julie and Chris tell us about learning to travel from Hamilton to Niagara Falls, on the GO bus (the YouTube closed captioning (CC) option has been customized for this video):

Last month, Michelle Martin joined Nicole Michell of Christian Horizons and Jeff Short of Metrolinx to talk about Inclusive Commuting at the Canadian Urban Transit Association annual conference.

Before the conference, she travelled to Union Station with Carmen Farrugia (the actor in our training videos) and his mom Judi to meet and talk about the new training program with Matt Llewellyn from Metrolinx. Thanks, Matt, we had a great time!
